Would it look weird if I went by myself?

Alright, here's the deal. I went to a soccer game with a friend and during that game I met a really lovely guy. He asked me to come back to watch the next one, but I was unfortunately too busy and couldn't make it. I'd like to go back to another game to possibly meet him again, but I have a bit of a problem. I don't really know anyone on the team, and my friend refuses to go back to watch another one with me because she thinks it's a waste of her time. Since my friend won't go with me, I worry that it would look too odd if this girl that nobody knows suddenly just shows up by herself. I do really enjoy watching games and am interested in playing, but am sort of a novice and couldn't really jump into it. Do you think I should bother going and possibly meeting that guy again? I worry that people would just think I was too strange for going by myself. I asked another friend and he just said that if anyone asks I should just tell them I'm just observing because I'm interested in playing. How lame is this? How can I overcome being so shy?
